Does anyone know the current GA law for county stickers?

I can only find the exact wording from 2010, which is one year before "In God We Trust" became an alternative option. So, I'm hoping that now it's legal for me to just peel off or cover up my county name because that's just bullshit. I should be allowed the same privacy without needing to advocate a religion that I don't follow. (especially since the little sticker in the corner says the county name regardless)

For those who don't know, standard license plates in Georgia are required to display the name of the county you live in, or if you pay an extra dollar you can get "In God We Trust" instead. But there's no other option, unless you want to pay twice as much for a specialty plate. If you don't see why it matters, think about how you're much more likely to be pulled over out of state by cops who expect you not to be able to show up in court. Now imagine that same thing happening every time you leave your county . And these are East Coast counties, too, so they're pretty tiny.

I've actually had a cop tell me that my county sticker played a part in his deciding to pull me over (it was a dead giveaway that I was a student there since locals only made up less than 1% of my college) so I've been wanting to cover it for a long time, but I can't find the current laws on that. And as long as they're still standard practice, I'd love to replace it with one that says "Hazzard."

But really, there's gotta be some way to fight it if this is still illegal. I can't tell if the whole "In God We Trust" thing is too church-and-state-ish or not, since they're not requiring it, but then it's not at all fair to allow that when any other obstruction/omission of the county name is illegal. So, yeah, should I just go for it and then try to fight it if I do get a ticket, or is it hopeless?

It's hopeless. DDS has the authority to require that license plates bear the county of origin. Some places code it into the plate number (like Alabama), others have a sticker. And since you cannot deface a plate legally, removing a sticker which is required (from among their choices) would constitute defacing the plate.

I just got a specialty plate. Easiest way to not deal with that. But yes, it costs money. Also, the new plates are screen printed, so the county name is already there and you don't get a sticker.

Can you get a frame that covers it? I know it might not technically be legal, but so many plate frames do it I don't think police care. I doubt it would draw more attention then a Hazzard sticker. I have a specialty plate from my state so I don't have to worry about it.

Thats what I love about NY. The only plates that have county names are region specific specialty plates.

FL does the same stupid county thing, and I hate it. We got specialty plates to get around it. No clue about GA law, even tho I'm originally from there.
